Instructions Following Root Canal Therapy

Kindly adhere to these guidelines.

Refrain from eating or drinking for a 30-minute duration post-treatment, allowing the temporary filling to solidify. Avoid making contact between your tooth and tongue.

If prescribed, promptly fill and take medications as directed. Alternatively, you can utilize ibuprofen or Tylenol to manage discomfort and swelling, adhering to the instructions on the label.

To mitigate swelling, apply a cold compress using a fabric barrier between the ice and your skin. Apply it for 20 minutes intermittently, for 6-8 hours as required.

Abstain from chewing or biting on the treated area until the permanent restoration is in place. Soft temporary fillings can break when exposed to hard substances during chewing.

Sustain oral hygiene by gently brushing and regularly flossing.

Should the temporary filling dislodge, contact your dentist. In urgent situations, temporary filling material can be procured from a pharmacy until your office visit.

Some discomfort over a span of 2 to 4 days is usual. The tooth and the surrounding tissues may remain tender for several weeks post-treatment.

Maintain your standard oral hygiene practices unless directed otherwise by the office. Adhere to any additional instructions provided and adhere to the prescribed medications.

While rare (approximately 5%), flare-ups can lead to substantial pain. Promptly get in touch with the office for swift assessment and treatment.
